Hunger Task Force Food Sort in Milwaukee
In July the branch volunteered for the Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee. We did a food sort and sorted 18,000 pounds of food as they came down a conveyor belt.
It was a blast!
Hunger Task Force has been feeding Milwaukee since 1974—They are the Free & Local food bank that assures a safety net for those facing the struggle of hunger. Their food bank delivers food absolutely free of charge to a local network of 80 food pantries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters in Milwaukee County.
To ensure a healthy and nutritious supply of food within their network, Hunger Task Force combines government commodities, food collected from local food drives, purchased emergency food, and fresh fruits and vegetables from their Farm and Fish Hatchery. This food supply represents breakfast, lunch and dinner based on family household size and dietary needs. Families can receive emergency food with dignity, on the day they need it and in the neighborhood where they live.
Food For Families
Food For Families is Hunger Task Force’s signature holiday food drive, sponsored by Johnson Controls. From October 1 – December 31, local grocery stores, businesses, schools and organizations host food drives to ensure a local safety net for families facing hunger over the holidays. Make a donation when you see our blue food drive boxes in grocery stores. Better yet, rally your friends, family and co-workers to host your own food drive! As Milwaukee’s Free & Local food bank, Hunger Task Force delivers all food donations to the hungry absolutely free of charge.
